Official Statement: Policy on Costumes and Cosplay at DaveCon

DaveCon is dedicated first and foremost to providing a focused, immersive, and welcoming environment for tabletop gaming. To ensure the safety of all attendees and protect the integrity of our venue, full costumes, cosplay gear, and roleplay apparel are not permitted at DaveCon.

While we deeply respect the incredible craftsmanship, time, and dedication that creators pour into their outfits, DaveCon is an event centered entirely around gaming culture, strategy, and play—not fashion shows or performance acting.

This policy was established due to serious, escalating incidents observed at regional and national conventions, including:

• Property Damage: Recent events, such as severe bathroom destruction at GaryCon and a separate incident at a Minnesota convention resulting in over $10,000 in hotel property damage, have underscored the severe financial and logistical risks large costume setups introduce to host venues.

• Harassment Concerns: Incidents involving the harassment of costumed attendees at conventions have made it clear that strict attire boundaries are necessary to maintain a safe, respectful environment for everyone.

• Core Event Focus: DaveCon is about sitting down at the table to play games. Our mission is to preserve a streamlined convention atmosphere dedicated to the hobby of gaming, free from the distractions and complications associated with full-scale costuming.
